Community Health Workers are Held to High StandardsBackQualified Community Health Care Workers are recognized by the province of British Columbia Victoria, BC - July 26, 2010 - Upon launching the new BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry in January 2010, the first of its kind in Canada, Health Services Minister Kevin Falcon acknowledged the value of community health care workers. He declared, "Care aides and community health workers are an important part of B.C.'s health-care delivery system". Community Health Care Worker Registry
The mandate of the British Columbia Care Aide Registry is threefold. Firstly, it serves to ensure that care aides and community health workers are qualified and have received proper training so they can provide appropriate health and social services to seniors and clients with special needs. Secondly, it is designed to protect patients against financial, physical or emotional abuse or neglect; for employers to report claims of such maltreatment; and for employees to be safeguarded against false allegations. Lastly, it provides information to home support, residential care and community health workers on professional development courses and career advancement opportunities. Standard of Healthcare in BC
Community health care workers must register with the BC Registry if they wish to work for a publicly funded employer, including acute care, residential, long term and community care facilities. Care aides working for a private healthcare operation also have the option to enroll in this database of credentialed community health workers. Applicants are eligible to register once they have completed a Community Health Worker certificate, or equivalent. Interested in a Community Health Care career?
