Health Care Assistant and Community Health Care programs provide Provincially-recognized training

Victoria, BC - June 21, 2010 - With Health Care Assistant and Community Health Care programs being offered across the country, it's important to know that the education you invest in will train you for the job you want. In the past, standards for Community Health Care and Health Care Assistant programs weren't properly regulated, but today's standards ensure healthcare students get the right training.

Healthcare Education Standards

In British Columbia, the Hospital Employees Union (HEU) teamed up with healthcare employers and the government to set educational standards to be applied to all post-secondary institutions. The standards and regulations now ensure that all healthcare graduates are equipped with the same skills and knowledge base. Programs also provide graduates with problem and critical thinking skills, which help when handling a wide variety of patients with complex healthcare needs. At the Academy of Health, instructors are industry experts who teach students the most up-to-date skills and techniques used in the field.

Hands-On Training

Standards for practicum hours have also been set for healthcare training programs. The Health Care Assistant and Community Health Care programs at the Academy of Health adhere to the rules set out by the province and ensure that graduates are more than ready for their future careers. Practicums not only build confidence, but also give students the skills they need not to thrive in the workplace!
